Bachelor Product Design

For me, product design bears the duty of facing urgent ecological and social problems. The transition from a linear economy to a circular economy is therefore not only the focus of my project, but also inspires me as a designer.

Hempcrete

Hemp and lime are two raw materials with a long tradition, yet in combination with each other they are currently experiencing a renaissance in the construction industry. Hemplime is also called hempcrete and de facto has qualities that are comparable to those of concrete ‒ with the decisive difference being that hempcrete binds CO2 from the environment instead of causing new CO2 emissions. Besides, at the end of its lifetime, hempcrete can either be crushed and reused as the basis for a new mixture, used in agriculture as a fertilizer, or simply be composted. But this sustainable material has its place not only in the construction sector. My project is about exploring the material, discovering potentials and bringing it into a new context.
