Bachelor Communication Design

I’m Noelle, in love when it comes to discovering new places, with cultural exchange and good communication – and with that I don’t mean the spoken word. As a communication designer, telling stories through form, color and typography fascinates me. For me, design means making decisions consciously. Deciding whose story we are telling.

Bombu

Transnational communication concept and branding system

My bachelor thesis includes a redesign of the brand identity for the art and cultural center Bombu in Mindelo, Cape Verde. In order to make the national project visible with the help of modern communication, a new communication concept is developed based on a market analysis, with the special characteristic that it works self-sufficiently with only few resources needed in Mindelo.

Bombu combines the existing Bombu Mininu in the city center and the emerging Bombu Cap in the center of the island. The creative residency center is a successful performing arts education project with the aim to promote culture and history as well as transnational exchange and contribute to the decolonization of Cape Verdean society. In March ‘23, I met the owners of the cultural center and learned about the targeted expansion of the project and the accompanying need for a consistent brand identity. In order to open up Bombu’s services to the local residents and the international target groups as well and to communicate this in a contemporary way, I was allowed to develop the new communication concept as part of my bachelor project.
